Ocular defect in children with cerebral palsy and its correlation with the types of cerebral palsy

Background: Cerebral palsy (CP) describes a group of permanent disorder the development movement and posture, causing activity limitation, that are attributed to non-progressive disturbance occurred in developing fetal or infant brain. The motor disorders cerebral often accompanied by disturbances sensation, perception, cognition, communication behavior, epilepsy, secondary musculoskeletal problem. However, no known study has been found on this aspect. Objective was evaluate ocular defect children with correlate types CP.Methods: Study done Paediatric Neurology unit BSMMU from January 2012 July 2012. One hundred thirty were studied. patients randomly selected who full filled inclusion criteria ophthalmological examination done.Results: Sixty four (64%) CP had pathological finding 36% percent normal finding. Most abnormalities squint (strabismus) (40%) refractive error (36.9%). defects spastic palsy, mainly quadriplegia (34.6%) diplegia (29.2%).Conclusions: Ocular like common associations palsy. Spastic quadriplegic diplegic more defects.
